It's not easy being green... but this could definitely help! The efforts are central to Pittsburgh's Climate Action Plan, which calls for the city to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% from 2003 levels come 2030. This sustainable deconstruction policy plans to recover usable materials from buildings that would otherwise be demolished, resulting in high material waste. With over 1,700 condemned buildings in Pittsburgh, deconstruction would produce a significantly lower carbon net emission than demolition alone. They say that although the deconstruction process may be costly, the true benefit is "that it's the right thing to do."
